A4 Potential Images

Images I would have liked to have included or used had they turned out better. There were a lot of technical issues with including text using shadows cast by sunlight through printer transparency film which were used in the shots with natural light. Because I was reliant on harsh shadow for the text to remain visible it meant I couldn’t introduce other light sources or reflectors in this instance. Also, I just needed a helper. In the artificial light shots as it was impossible to hold everything in place whilst using a very shallow depth-of-field with close up filters fitted to the camera lens. Some of the images had a light source behind a white background and the text had been fixed to the back of the background material, in front of the light. This made working out exposure difficult and it was also a problem as I couldn’t introduce more light at the front of the subject as it would then cancel out the text shadow on the background material. The transparency film shows up when it is placed in front of a subject, which can be an issue, but certainly  is not great when it starts to reflect light; outside there is the added complication of wind. I was trying to hold the text still with no support, plus hold and use a camera with a large, heavy lens with a very shallow focusing plane; it just became impossible to get a decent shot on my own.  The shots using artificial light also use mirrors. That just adds another level of complication that on reflection (no pun intended), I didn’t really need.

I loved this but it had an earlier version of the text and the ugly line between paper and background. It was an early version of the idea, and I really liked the daisies on pins although they were a pain to keep upright. I think I’ll try this again.

Not enough text visible

I can see the texture of the background material

This patch of light in the corner is a problem caused by using a mirror as a background

It wasn’t in focus

Light bouncing from the transparency film

I’d not corrected the text to make it read correctly
