Exercise 1.4 Frame
I will make no secret of the fact that this exercise has been difficult for me, even though on the face of it, it seems like an easy one. No camera I own will split the viewfinder into four. They will all split it into nine, and there are variations on that theme. But four? No.
So I’ve had to imagine the viewfinder split into four and try and compose in one quarter of the frame. The problem is that it is very difficult to just ignore the rest of the space. I had thought I’d managed to get a reasonable amount of shots for this exercise, but I think I must keep subconsciously moving to reframe at the last minute.
I think that perhaps I tend to begin looking at the frame from a certain point; looking back I realise that most of the time I was tending to use the top right or left of the frame for these compositions rather than the bottom of it.
